Bosnia and Herzegovina is in South Eastern Europe, one of the republics of former Yugoslavia. It is bound on the North and West by Croatia, the South West by Croatia and the Adriatic Sea, and on the East by Serbia and Montenegro. The capital, Sarajevo, is in the East-central part of the country. Yes, we had the war, but it ended 16 years ago (in 1995). Since then Bosnia and Herzegovina is recovering very well. Large number of foreign investments in Bosnia-Herzegovina shows that this country is no more unsafe and unpredictable area for others. In fact walking on the streets in Sarajevo is far more secure than in most of Western European cities. Today Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the process of becoming a candidate to European Union and NATO. The easiest way of reaching Sarajevo is by plane. Nearest international airports are in of course Sarajevo, then Belgrade, Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik. From those destinations there are regular bus-lines and trains (from Belgrade and Zagreb). All the information on how to get to Sarajevo can be found on www.visitsarajevo.ba. Visit www.sff.ba, www.sonar.ba and http://www.bhtourism.ba. |

Sarajevo∙Students∙Symposium on “Power of Mobility”- S 3 is a one-week student symposium open to students from all European Universities. During the event young people from different parts of Europe with different cultural backgrounds will get to know each other and through joint cooperation will share their understanding of the central theme “Power of Mobility”. Theme- Today in global society “mobility” is becoming more significant social phenomena. Mobility is mostly caused by economical, political, educational etc. reasons and its impact shapes today’s societies. Is mobility of people from different cultural backgrounds problem or benefit for society? What is the relation between human rights, discrimination, xenophobia and mobility? How to understand mobility and how to promote it in Europe today? All these questions and challenges will be analyzed through interactive lectures, joint group work and creative workshops led by experienced facilitators, experts and practitioners from the region.
Programme has two parts. The first three days are held on Jahorina, Olympic mountain above Sarajevo. It is opportunity for 100 students to meet each other, to get to know each other and to explore the central theme through discussions and workshops on following aspects of mobility:
The second part of the Program is happening in Sarajevo. After exploring different aspects of mobility and creating common vision the next step is to find the tools and techniques how to promote and interpret the topic to the wider public. Thus there are organized different creative workshops: theatre & mask, DJ-ing and VJ-ing, photography, graffiti, comics, product design, creative lobbying, new media etc.). Creative workshops will help students to practically present their vision and reflection on the central theme of mobility and to engage with other young people and citizens of Sarajevo and abroad. The programme also consists of intercultural evening, parties, concerts, visit to Sarajevo Film Festival and other cultural activities where the participants will have possibility to get to know each other more and to relax.
Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina is exactly the city shaped by arrival and interaction of people from different cultures, ethnic and religion backgrounds, from East and West (Ottoman empire from 15 century to 1878, Austro-Hungarian Empire 1878-1918, Yugoslavia 1918-1992). It is the city where the World War I has started by assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in 1914. Seventy years later Sarajevo was host of Winter Olympic Games (1984). In the early 90’s was unfortunately in the middle of war and under the siege. Today, Sarajevo is again growing as important Balkans’ city that offers special taste of multicultural society where mosques, catholic and orthodox churches and synagogues are standing next to each other for more than 500 years. In July Sarajevo is host of one of the most famous film festivals in Europe and S3 participants will be able to feel that festival’s atmosphere too.
